Night out @ Beefcakes Jhb

Andrew and Grant started Beefcakes in Cape Town and now in Jhb. ” Inspired by the trendsetting styles of Miami South Beach, where Flamingos flock to be surrounded by Camp Chic and a Touch of Madness”

My excitement to visit this burger bar in Illovo ,was unnerving for my colleague,  as he could not understand my excitement to visit a restaurant that had gay waiters.  A peek at the website  and the pic of shirtless good looking guys with 6-packs, can be a bit intimidating for some guys. But our experience proved to be worth the visit.

It turned out to be a pretty classy restaurant. Decorated in a pink fantasy of feather boa’s, lights and Florida flamingo’s. Tables had glitter party hats and the mood of the place was cosy and warm with soft lighting .

Our table afforded us fantastic views of the crowd and the stage. The restaurant was packed and it was a Thursday night, which speaks volumes about its popularity. People from all backgrounds buzzed with conversation and laughter. Fellow blogger Netanja, was awesome company for the night and shared this new experience with us.

The drinks menu includes wines, martinis, shot-tails, warm drinks and yes.. pink wines. Our happy waiter Cuan quickly assisted me with a choice of cocktail. I enjoyed 2 of the delicious PS..I love you. .  .

Our lovely host Tammy made us feel so welcome and comfortable. This kind of hospitality is rare these days. She helped us choose our meals from the range of interesting burgers on the menu. The menu included a variety of Burgers to choose from: beef, chicken, ostrich meat, lamb and yes..Vegetarian as well. I opted for Babycakes, a selection of 3 baby burgers with my choice of toppings. These burgers are the best I have ever tasted. My plate below has an extra baby burger as I had to taste the veg burger.  My colleague enjoyed a sumptuous Beach Boy burger, with cheese, salsa and sour cream

The patrons were  females, couples , gay male friends, people celebrating birthdays or bachelorette parties. There was even a honeymoon couple from Germany who didnt speak a word of english in the audience.

By 8.30pm the highlight of the evening was definitely the Dreemz Drag show. Showcasing Vegas style drag talent by 3 mature performers in a variety of sequin costumes and characters. It was awesomely entertaining and filled with humour.

The grand finale was all the young hot  waiters went on stage and took off their shirts. Ladies had the option of paying for body shots off the hot body waiters.

We ended our night with a delectable Priscilla Queen of the dessert platter. We enjoyed an array of mouthwatering  desserts which included choc brownie, deep fried twinks, banana springrolls and creamy ice-cream.

Beefcakes is highly recommended. An enjoyable, fun filled night out with good entertainment and food. Im now looking forward to the new Sunday night performance.
