Joining them at the Johannesburg show will be Australian chef, restauranteur, author and judge on The Great Australian Bake Off, Matt Moran as well as private chef, Neill Anthony.

On his upcoming Johannesburg Good Food & Wine Show experience Calombaris says: ““I had such a great time in Cape Town, I am really looking forward to sharing recipes from my new cookbook GREEK and meeting and mingling with MasterChef fans in Johannesburg. It’s been a few years since between visits there so looking forward to it!”

The introduction of eight exciting focus areas to explore ensures that there is something to cater to every palate. These include Wellness;Lifestyle; Wine; Beer & Alcohol; Market & Street Food; Kids; Baking and Gourmet. Prime Minister Modi to visit SA in July 2016

modi

SA Welcomes Modi

An online Registration Portal is launched as the Indian Diaspora in South Africa Gear Up for India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s visit to South Africa.

modi 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The website (www.sawelcomesmodi.org) is aimed at registering members, who wish to gain access to the venue, where the honorable Prime Minister of India will address a grand community reception that brings together individuals not only from one of the oldest Indian communities outside of India but also the broader South African community on July 8th, 2016 in Johannesburg.

The deadline for registration is June 20, 2016, at midnight.

SAwelcomesModi urges South African and Indian communities not to pass up the chance to attend the historic visit.  This visit augurs very well for South Africa and India’s relationship, as for the first time the head of state of India will address a public gathering of this magnitude in South Africa.

South Africa’s deep and revered bond with India spans over five generations where iconic figures of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela gave birth to new ideals of freedom and democracy. Gandhi in particular started his Satyagraha campaigns in South Africa as a leader in the struggle against oppressive colonial policies of discrimination and carried them back to India, a century ago to lead that nation to freedom from the shackles of colonialism.

Mandela acknowledged how Gandhi’s thinking had influenced his own reconciliatory approach to bringing about a peaceful transition to democracy in South Africa after decades of apartheid domination.

All are called upon to register and be part of celebrating the contribution of the Indian diaspora in all facets of the social and cultural fabric of the country.

The committee urges all South Africans to register for the public function and encourages others to register as well, so that this event becomes a memorable and a truly South African experience.

Please note: Strict security measures will be in place. No children under 13yrs can register.   More information on the process of the Registration will be communicated on the official website: https://www.sawelcomesmodi.org/register

Muhammad Ali shares his wisdom

Muhammad Ali was a fighter all his life, both in and out of the ring. He initially found fame as a champion boxer, celebrated for his unorthodox ring style and witty talk before, during, and after fights.

But Ali’s charisma and commitment to social and political causes saw him transcend boxing to become one of the most famous people on the planet, at a time when black people lacked basic civil rights in America.

Ring Magazine named Ali “Fighter of the Year” five times, more than any other boxer, and he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. Ali has been married four times and has seven daughters and two sons. He married his fourth wife, Yolanda, in 1986. Ali died at the age of 74 on June 3, 2016.

Muhammad Ali’s inspiring speech on life after retirement is one that should be listened to with intent.

As he says, Life is real short so Get ready to meet God.

Control Your Immune System with The Wim Hof Method.

Wim Hof is a holder of 20 Guinness World Records for withstanding extreme temperatures.

Wim Hof, Iceman
The Wim Hof Method is similar to Tummo (inner heat) Meditation and Pranayama (yogic breathing). Yet it is something else entirely. While Wim has studied yoga and meditation for many years, this technique primordially comes from what he terms ‘cold hard nature’. By subjecting himself to the bitter conditions of nature, he learned to withstand the extreme forces of cold, heat and fear.
The first part is a breathing exercise which can be likened to controlled hyperventilation.

The image will consist of rapid breathing that makes one languid, invigorates one, makes one high on oxygen. One mechanism of this practice is the complete oxygenation of your blood and cells.

Get Comfortable and Close Your Eyes
Sit in a meditation posture, whatever is most comfortable for you. Make sure you can expand your lungs freely without feeling any constriction. It is recommended to do this practice right after waking up since your stomach is still empty.
Warm Up
Inhale deeply. Really draw the breath in until you feel a slight pressure from inside your chest on your solar plexus. Hold this for a moment and then exhale completely. Push the air out as much as you can. Hold this for a moment. Repeat this warm up round 15 times.
30 Power Breaths
Imagine you’re blowing up a balloon. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth in short but powerful bursts. The belly is pulled inward when you are breathing out and is pulled outward when you are breathing in. Keep a steady pace and use your midriff fully. Close your eyes and do this around 30 times or until you feel your body is saturated with oxygen. Symptoms could be light-headedness, tingling sensations in the body, electrical surges of energy.
Scan Your Body
During the 30 power breaths, delve into your body and become aware of it as possible. Trace your awareness up and down your body and use your intuition as to what parts lack energy and what parts are overflowing. Scan for any blockage between the two. Try to send energy/warmth to those blockages. Then release them deeper and deeper. Tremors, traumas and emotional releases can come up. It can be likened to kundalini rising. Feel the whole body fill up with warmth and love.
Feel the negativity burn away.
Often people report swirling colors and other visual imagery during this exercise. Once you encounter them, go into them, embrace them, merge with them. Get to know this inner world and how it correlates to the feeling of tension or blockages in your body.
The Hold
After the the 30 rapid succession of breath cycles, draw the breath in once more and fill the lungs to maximum capacity without using too much force. Then push all of the air out and hold for as long as you can. Draw the chin in a bit so as to prevent air from coming in again.
Really relax and open all energy channels in your body. Notice how all the oxygen is spreading around in your body. Hold the breath until you experience the gasp reflex on the top of your chest.
Recovery Breath
Inhale to full capacity. Feel your chest expanding. Release any tension in the solar plexus. When you are at full capacity, hold the breath once more. Drop the chin to the chest and hold this for around 15 seconds.
Notice that you can direct the energy with your awareness. Use this time to scan the body and see where there is no color, tension or blockages. Feel the edges of this tension, go into it, move the energy towards this black hole. Feel the constrictions burning away, the dark places fill with light. Relax the body deeper as you move further inward, let everything go. Your body knows better than you do. After 15 seconds you have completed the first round.
Start this practice with one or two rounds. Try to do it daily and add two more rounds in a few days. After you feel more comfortable with holding your breath you can start to add exercises and stretches. Work up to a minimum of 15 minutes or 6 rounds with exercises. You can do this practice for how long it pleases you.
If you feel dizziness or pain, get out of the posture and lie on your back. Breathe easily again and stop this practice session.

Reserve at least 5 minutes after this practice to relax and scan the body.

Summary
30 times balloon blowing

Breathe in fully

Breath out fully and hold until gasp reflex

Inhale fully and hold for 10-15 seconds.

Repeat until finished

Take 5 minutes to relax and scan your body

Bonus Power-ups
Add push-ups or yoga poses during the time you are holding your breath until you wait for the gasp reflex. Notice that you are stronger without air than you would normally be if you could breathe!

Charge the energy up the spine by holding moola banda, contract the rectum & sex organ and pull the navel inward towards the spine.

Stand up in squat position and do the balloon breath. Try to breathe away the burn. (get seated again the moment you continue the cycle, you don’t want to be standing and faint) See if you can get the energy overtake the pain. Don’t give up easily and see how far you can go if you have the willpower!
If you are new to cold exposure, start with cold showers. Begin with your feet and then follow with your legs, your stomach, shoulders, neck and back and finally your head. An initial shock, shivering and hyperventilation is normal. Try to remain calm and breathe easily. Close your eyes and really try to embrace the cold.
If you feel any strong physical uncomfortableness, like heavy shivering, numbness or pain, get your body warm again as soon as possible.
Once you are out of the shower, take a moment to do another slow body scan before you dry yourself.

Cold exposure works like weight lifting, you get stronger over time. There are little muscles around your veins that contract when they get into contact with the cold. After some time (only 1-2 weeks according to Wim) these become stronger, making your veins healthier and reducing the force that your heart has to use to pump blood around your body.

You can increase exposure over time. At one point the cold will feel just as comfortable as wearing your favorite pajamas and you can skip the warm shower completely. Notice how you feel amazing after a cold shower and sluggish after a warm one.

Now which brave one of you is  ready to try this?

If the reviews from international critics are anything to go by, the South African audience is in for a treat as the festive Bollywood music and dance spectacular, Mystic India, hits the stage at the Durban ICC on the 23rd April and at The Teatro, Montecasino from the 29th April to 1st May 2016.

Seen by over half a million people during countless worldwide performances and tours, Mystic India is an internationally acclaimed Bollywood music and dance spectacular based on the concept of ancient India’s transition into modern India.

Featuring some 22 talented musicians, brilliant dancers, mind-boggling aerialists and acrobats, as well as 750 lavish costume changes, the show is bound to keep you at the edge of your seat. The flamboyant costumes and extravagant sets have been custom-designed in India’s film capital by a team of 40 creative designers and collaborators over the course of the last four years.

This production intertwines a mesmerising combo: Traditional India meets the urban streets of Mumbai and New York. It is hip and trendy with all the glitter and bling to make it an all-out sensory sensation. This feast showcases Bollywood at its finest and audiences can brace themselves for an explosion of colour and energy.

The celebratory production is directed and choreographed by the prominent choreographer and production master, Amit Shah, and produced by US-based AATMA Performing Arts, of which Shah is the founder and creative director.

Talking about Mystic India, Amit says, “If you have ever wanted to visit India, this production is your direct flight there. Mystic India will blow you all the way to the small villages of India to the fast-paced streets of Mumbai and New York. Audiences will get it all!”

The female lead of Mystic India, Kruti Shah, is an internationally distinguished dancer and choreographer who shot to fame as a Top 10 finalist on the dance reality show, Just Dance.

min1

While intensively training in modern forms of movement, such as ballet, pointe, tap, hip-hop, jazz and modern, Kruti also developed an interest in more ancient Indian forms of dance, particularly Bharatnyatam and Kathak.

Bringing the element of adventure to Mystic India, are the specialty acts, like the ancient sport of Mallakhamb and the aerial arts. The choreographer, trainer and performer in charge of constructing these stunning pieces into the show, is Rajesh Mudki. He hails from Mumbai, India, where he has devoted his life to these spectacular sports.

Mudki has trained in Mallakhamb since the age of six, and has since mastered the aerial mediums of silk, hoop, harness and rope. In 2007 he was honoured with the Shiv Chattrapati Award from the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for Best Athlete of the Year.

This larger-than-life Bollywood extravaganza will run at the Durban ICC on the 23rd April and at The Teatro Montecasino from the 29th April to 1st May 2016.  Tickets range between R185 and R485 and will be available through Computicket (www.computicket.com)
